HIV/AIDS/Trafficking

Though Uttar Pradesh is not a high risk state as far as HIV and AIDS are concerned, sheer number of high risk people is quite high given large population of the state. Pratinidhi undertook large scale drive to generate awareness about HIV/AIDS. It was also involved in seminal studies on the issue.

Uttar Pradesh is also transit and destination of trafficking of women. Pratinidhi is running a programme to provide better care and sustainable rehabilitation to the trafficking victims. The goals of the programme are three-fold:

  • Improved victim care systems and support mechanisms at different levels of governance ensuring care/support to victims within their rights perspective.
  • Increased capacity among care providers, and NGOs in dealing survivors of trafficking within their rights perspective
  • Increased access to care and alternative/ sustained livelihood options for survivors of trafficking

Activities like system review, studies, sharing of studies findings, press conferences, capacity building of care providers, vocational training of victims, etc., have been initiated.
