Neelu a resident of village Sindaki in Karnataka lived happily with her family. Her father had expired a year back and her brother worked in a hotel and the family's expenses his earnings. One day her maternal uncle and aunt visited their house from Basti. They had come after a long gap since their marriage. Neelu was very happy to see them. Her aunt was pregnant. She asked Neelu's mother to send Neelu with her to assist her in household activities. Neelu's mother agreed to that. After three days Neelus was with her uncle and aunt in Basti. She was very happy there.

But slowly the things changed. She was doing the household work but strangely was not permitted to go outside. Her uncle's and aunt's behavior also changed and they became harsh. One day her aunt went to the neighborhood and Neelu was left alone in the house, when her uncle came. He tried to misbehave with her. Somehow she managed to rescue herself. When her aunt returned she complained her but strangely both of them beat her. Now Neelu was helpless. Her uncle was always in search of a chance to misbehave with her, but somehow she survived. Her life had become suffocating.

On 3rd June she took a serious decision and ran away from the house when everyone was sleeping in the morning. She managed to come to the railway station where an old man gave her the phone number of Lucknow police. She sat in the train going to Lucknow and reached there in the evening.

Some policemen saw her and took her to the police station. From there she was sent to sudhar home in Lucknow. Here she found herself in new circumstances. Many girls and women like her were there. She wept and thought that she had to live her entire life like this now.

One day she saw some new people in the sudhar home. The superintendent told her that they are from Pratinidhi and that they would talk with them and share their feelings. They were counseling the inmates. Here they met Neelu. She narrated them the whole incident and requested them to send her back to her native place.

After rounds of conversation Neelu was able to tell the name of the school where her brothers studied. This information was immediately flashed on the Childline Karnataka. They were able to trace the school in Sindaki and also the house of the victim.  Neelu was very haapy. She was sent back to her place in Karnataka. The serious efforts of Pratinidhi members facilitated her rehabilitation to her home. Now she was back with her near and dear ones and lived happily
