Proud Owner of Safe Drinking Water Device

This is the tale of Alisha, a maid, residing in Rahim Nagar slum of Lucknow. A widow and illiterate, she has four members in the family. Most of the residents of the slum are very poor owing to lack of gainful employment, forcing many women in the locality work as maids in nearby localities. Residents of slum completely lack awareness about mother and child care. Besides this there are no educational facilities for children.

The words of Alisha are testimony to the change that POUZN Project is bringing among the residents. "I worked as maid in nearby kothis (big houses). Water supplied in our area is very dirty and we used to spend almost Rs 5,000 on treatment of water borne diseases. Now due to this project not only the health condition of the family has improved, but there is reduction in the expenses towards treatment."

Alisha is associated to Kali  SHG through Pratinidhi. Primarily discussions revolve round thrift and credit activities in the beginning, but now-a-days health issues are also discussed after the launching of POUZN Project.

She is all praise about Savitri Behan, who she said, gave information on Safe drinking water through games, films and books. She drove home the message that investment of our hard earned money in medical expenses weakened our economic condition. The representatives from Hindustan Lever demonstrated Water Filters and told the importance of Safe Drinking Water. Now we are getting these devices through Pratinidhi in instalments.

Now safe drinking water device is installed in her home and she is getting safe drinking water and the poor family is extremely happy.
